Evaluation agencies

Certified translation for an IFCS credential evaluation

The Institute of Foreign Credential Services (IFCS), a NACES member since 2022, draws a clean line between the two services. An evaluation determines US equivalency, a translation converts the text, and translation fees are never included in the evaluation fee. Its rule on who may translate is that translations must be completed by an ATA certified translator or by a certified, sworn or legally authorized translator recognized by the appropriate authority in the country where the translation is completed. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member, and each translation is certified by the named professional translator, word for word, on letterhead. Certified translation is $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, in 2 to 3 business days, and STUDENT25 takes 25% off.

What IFCS says, in its own words

Translations must be completed by an ATA-certified translator or by a certified, sworn, or legally authorized translator recognized by the appropriate authority in the country where the translation is completed. Translation fees are separate and are not included in the evaluation fee.

The ATA standard again. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member, and the certificate names the translator and prints the member number.

A translation converts the document's text from its original language into English. It does not determine U.S. equivalency.

Which is why our translations never assert an equivalency. A licenciatura is rendered as a licenciatura and IFCS decides what it is worth.

If your documents are in a foreign language, and you do not have a certified translation, we can provide a translation quote.

A certified translation you already hold is accepted; IFCS quotes only when you do not have one.

Requirements

What an IFCS evaluation requires of your documents

  • Translations must be completed by an ATA certified translator or by a certified, sworn or legally authorized translator recognized by the appropriate authority in the country where the translation is completed.
  • Translation fees are separate from the evaluation fee; IFCS quotes its own translation when the applicant has no certified translation.
  • IFCS is a NACES member since 2022 and is on the New York State Education Department's approved list for teacher certification credential reports.
  • IFCS is on the list of outside evaluation services the City University of New York accepts for applicants educated outside the United States.

Common reasons translations get rejected

  • A translation by someone with no certification. IFCS names ATA certified and sworn or legally authorized translators; fluency alone is not on the list.
  • A translation that converts grades or renames a degree. IFCS says a translation does not determine equivalency; leave that to the evaluator.
  • Expecting the translation to be included in the evaluation price. IFCS bills it separately, so compare the quote with a flat per page rate before ordering.

Questions

Common questions

Does IFCS accept translations from Eagle Translate?
IFCS requires translations by an ATA certified translator or a certified, sworn or legally authorized translator. ATA certification is an individual exam credential, and Eagle Translate holds ATA corporate membership; each translation is certified by a named professional translator, with the member number on the letterhead. IFCS decides each file; we do not give legal advice.
Does IFCS need a notarized translation?
IFCS's rule is about the translator's certification, not a notary. Our certificate is signed by the translator. We do not currently offer notarization; if another receiver insists on it, email us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
How much does the translation cost and how long does it take?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 source words, in 2 to 3 business days, no certification fee. STUDENT25 takes 25% off; FREERUSH gives Premium 1 to 2 business day delivery at the Certified price. One code per order.
Can IFCS verify the certificate?
Yes. Each certificate carries its own number and a QR code that lead to eagletranslate.com/verify, where the number is confirmed against our records.
