Certified translation for an IERF credential evaluation
The International Education Research Foundation (IERF), founded in 1969 as the first credential evaluation service and a founding member of NACES, requires translations for every record not officially issued in English. They must be typed, in the same format as the original language documents, line by line and word for word, and IERF reserves the right to require professional translations; for physical therapy licensure files it requires them outright, on the translation service's letterhead, with an accuracy statement, seal and signature, and in the same page layout as the original. Translations must be submitted for all records not officially issued in English. These must be in the same format as the original-language documents, line-by-line, word-for-word, and must be typed. IERF reserves the right to request translations prepared by professional translation services.Format matters as much as wording at IERF. A translation that is completed by any translator (professionals and non-professionals), but is certified by a notary as a true copy of the original. The identity of the translator is also certified. A notarized translation is not required by IERF.IERF's own glossary says a notarized translation is not required and defines a professional translation, one issued by a trained, paid translator, as what it wants. That is what our certificate documents.

What an IERF evaluation requires of your documents
- Translations are required for all records not officially issued in English, typed, in the same format as the original, line by line and word for word.
- IERF reserves the right to request translations prepared by professional translation services, and its country pages for the Netherlands and Belgium ask for professional translations outright.
- For physical therapy licensure, professional translations are required for all records not officially issued in English, on the translation service's letterhead, with an accuracy statement, official seal and signature, word for word, in the same format and page layout as the original.
- IERF requires official academic records in the original language, on institutional letterhead with official signatures and seals; unofficial student copies are not accepted even if the school issued them.
- For Spain, Mexico, Colombia, France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil and Turkey, IERF's country notes ask for English translations of all documents; for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, of every document issued in German, French or Italian.
- IERF's glossary says a certified translation is a translation with a statement attesting to its accuracy and that a notarized translation is not required by IERF.
Common reasons translations get rejected
- A translation that reflows the transcript into prose. IERF's rule is the same format as the original, line by line, and a grade table turned into paragraphs is sent back.
- Translating the bilingual Italian diploma supplement only in part. IERF notes that the subject breakdown on page 3 of the Italian examination results is in Italian only and needs a translation.
- Ordering the physical therapy translation before IERF has confirmed the file is complete. IERF asks physical therapy applicants to wait for its email listing the documents to translate.
- Sending a school's English version instead of a translation. IERF's Egypt note says English translations issued by the school are not accepted in place of official academic records.

IERF does not translate. It refers applicants to an outside service with a discount and notes that some applicants find translations in their country of study cheaper. A translation from us is $24.95 per page, $18.71 with STUDENT25.
For physical therapy files IERF wants only a photocopy of the professional translation and asks you to keep the original; emailing translations carries a printing fee of $0.25 per page.
IERF asks for clear, full sized photocopies of the front and back of every original document and translation you send, or it charges a $20 fee.

- Does IERF accept translations from Eagle Translate?
- IERF's rule is a typed translation in the same format as the original, line by line and word for word, and for physical therapy a professional translation on letterhead with a signed accuracy statement. Ours meet that description on every point and come from an ATA Corporate Member. IERF reserves the right to reject any translation it finds inaccurate or interpretive, so we translate as written and never interpret.
- Does IERF need a notarized translation?
- No. IERF's glossary says a notarized translation is not required by IERF. What it wants is a professional translation, and for physical therapy one with a seal and signature on letterhead, which our certificate carries.
- I am a physical therapist. When should I order the translation?
- After IERF emails you that it has received all your documents in the original language; that email attaches scans of exactly what needs translating. Order from those scans, keep the original translation, and send IERF a photocopy.
- My German diploma is bilingual. Do I still need a translation?
- IERF asks for translations of every document issued in German; a document the university itself issued in both German and English can be submitted as issued. Where only part of a bilingual document is in English, as with the Italian examination results, the untranslated part needs a translation.
- How much does the translation cost and how long does it take?

A translation error is ours to fix
If your certified translation is rejected because of a translation error we made, we correct it at no charge, and if the corrected translation is rejected again for that same error we refund what you paid for it. Our Refund Policy sets out the conditions and what it does not cover. Your documents are encrypted and kept confidential from start to finish.
