Certification explained

What is a certified translation

A certified translation is a complete, word for word translation of a document accompanied by a signed certificate of accuracy. The certificate attests that the translation is complete and accurate, and it is what official reviewers look for first.

  • Signed by the certified translator responsible for the document
  • States the language pair, the date, and the translator name
  • Issued on our official template with the Eagle Translate seal
  • Required by USCIS and most agencies for foreign language documents

Know the difference

Certified or notarized

The two are often confused. Most offices require certified translation, and notarization is an extra layer only when the receiving office specifically asks for it.

Certified translation

The translator signs a certificate of accuracy attesting the translation is complete and correct. This is what USCIS, courts, and universities require for foreign language documents.

Notarized translation

A notary public confirms the identity of the person signing the certificate. It does not review the translation itself. Order it only when the receiving office asks for notarization.

Our standards

The bar every order has to clear

Certification only means something if the work behind it holds up. These rules apply to every order, without exception.

Qualified translators for every pair

A language pair is only offered when a qualified, certified human translator is available for it. Your order is always matched to a real specialist in your exact pair.

Reviewed and approved before delivery

Every translation is reviewed against the source document and approved by the translator. No translation is ever delivered without a recorded translator approval.

Confidential from start to finish

Documents are encrypted in transit and at rest, and are only seen by the translator working on your order.

Accepted, or we make it right

If your certified translation is not accepted for its intended official use, we correct it or refund you. Rejections caused by translation errors are refunded in full.

Accepted where it matters

A certified translation from Eagle Translate is prepared for official use, including immigration filings, academic admissions, licensing boards, and legal submissions. Your documents arrive certified, signed, and ready to submit.

Questions

Questions about certification

Direct answers about what certification means and how it works.

A certified translation is a complete, word for word translation of a document accompanied by a signed certificate of accuracy. The certificate attests that the translation is complete and accurate and includes the translator name, signature, date, and language pair. Government agencies, courts, and universities require it for foreign language documents.

A certified translation includes the translator's signed statement of accuracy. A notarized translation adds a notary public who confirms the identity of the person signing that statement. The notary does not review the translation itself. Most offices, including USCIS, require certified translation, and notarization is only needed when the receiving office specifically asks for it.

ATA refers to the American Translators Association, the leading professional body for translators in the United States. Eagle Translate certification is backed by an ATA credential held through our parent entity.

Yes. USCIS requires a full English translation of every foreign language document, together with a signed certification that the translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent to translate. Every Eagle Translate certified translation includes exactly that, and if a government agency rejects one because of translation errors, we refund you in full.

The certified translator responsible for your document signs the certificate. It carries the translator name, signature, date, and the language pair of the translation.

Every translation is the work of a qualified, certified human translator, and every translation is reviewed for accuracy before it is certified and delivered. No translation is ever delivered without a recorded translator approval.
