Official translation requirements for FPGEC certification through NABP
Pharmacists educated outside the United States must earn Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) Certification from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) before they can sit a licensure exam, and the FPGEC bulletin sets out the strictest translation rule on these pages. Any document not in English, including all seals and stamps, needs an official, word for word English translation prepared and certified as correct by an official translator, which the FPGEC defines to include a certified translator, a certified court interpreter, an authorized government official, a pharmacy school official, a professional translation service in any country or a university language department. The FPGEC must be able to identify the translator, each page must carry an original signature and date and appear on official stationery, photocopies are not accepted, an attestation of accuracy and proof of the translator's credentials must accompany the translation, and you may not translate your own documents. ECE is the only organization NABP works with for the evaluation itself. Any document, including all seals and/or stamps, not in English must be accompanied by an official word-for-word English translation, prepared and certified as correct by an official translator. The FPGEC considers an official translator to be a certified translator, a certified court interpreter, an authorized government official, or an official from the pharmacy school where you obtained your pharmacy degree. You may also obtain an official translation from a professional translation service in any country or jurisdiction, or an appropriate language department at any university.A professional translation service in any country is on the list, and every seal and stamp is translated, which our bracketed descriptions do at each one's position.
The FPGEC must be able to identify the name of the translator. Each page of the translation must include an original signature and be dated by the translator, and must appear on official stationery. Photocopies of translations are not accepted.This is the line that goes beyond a standard certified translation. Ours names the translator and carries the signature and date on the certificate that opens the file, not on each page, so ask us before ordering for the FPGEC.
The translator must provide an attestation statement regarding the accuracy of each translation. Proof of the translator's credentials must accompany each translation. You may not provide your own translations.Our certificate is the attestation, and it names the translator's qualification and the company's ATA membership number.
ECE is the only organization that NABP works with for the evaluation of foreign educational credentials. An evaluation from any other organization will not be accepted.The translation goes to ECE with the transcripts and proof of degree, and ECE's own NABP page repeats the same translation rule.

What the FPGEC requires of a translation
- Any document not in English, including all seals and stamps, must be accompanied by an official word for word English translation prepared and certified as correct by an official translator.

- The translator must provide an attestation of accuracy, proof of the translator's credentials must accompany each translation, and applicants may not provide their own translations.
- Degree credentials, official transcripts, official proof of the pharmacy degree and the translation of non English documents are submitted to ECE, which verifies the degree and is the only organization that can evaluate credentials on behalf of NABP.
Common reasons translations get rejected
- Translating your own diploma. The bulletin says you may not provide your own translations.
- Leaving a stamp untranslated. The rule names seals and stamps, and a pharmacy diploma usually carries several.
- Sending a photocopy or an unsigned page. Each page of the translation must carry an original signature and date, and photocopies are not accepted.
- Ordering an evaluation from WES or another NACES member. NABP works only with ECE, and an evaluation from any other organization is not accepted.

Good to know about NABP and the FPGEC
The FPGEC bulletin's rule is the same one ECE prints on its NABP documentation page, so the pharmacy file is judged by one standard at both organizations.
Notarization is not part of the translation rule; the bulletin asks for notarization only for photocopies of the documents themselves.

- Does the FPGEC accept translations from Eagle Translate?
- The FPGEC accepts official translations from a professional translation service, which we are, with the translator identified, an attestation and proof of credentials, which our certificate carries. It also requires an original signature and date on each page and accepts no photocopies, and our standard delivery is one PDF signed on the certificate. Email us before ordering for the FPGEC and we will tell you honestly whether we can deliver the per page format for your documents. We do not give legal advice.
- Who evaluates my pharmacy degree for NABP?
- Only ECE. NABP's help center says ECE is the only organization it works with for the evaluation of foreign educational credentials and that an evaluation from any other organization will not be accepted.
- Does the translation need to be notarized?
- No. The bulletin asks for the translator's signature, date, attestation and credentials, not a notary. Notarization appears in the bulletin only for photocopies of the documents themselves.
- Can a translation from my home country be used?
- Yes, if it meets the same list. The FPGEC accepts an official translation from a professional translation service in any country or jurisdiction.
