Certified translation for a Josef Silny and Associates evaluation
Josef Silny and Associates (JS&A), the Miami based evaluator founded in 1987 that the Florida and Texas nursing boards both approve, requires accurate, professional, certified English translations of any credential issued in another language, submitted alongside the original documents, which the translation supplements but does not replace. JS&A sells its own translations and accepts outside ones under conditions. They must be properly certified and done by ATA certified translators, or, outside the United States, by accredited or officially certified professional translators, and JS&A does not accept translations done by applicants or unqualified translators. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member, each translation is certified and signed by the named professional translator, and the layout of the original is preserved so the two documents match. Certified translation is $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, in 2 to 3 business days, and STUDENT25 takes 25% off.
In their own words
What JS&A says, in its own words
Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by accurate, professional, certified, English translations. Translations supplement, but do not replace the original documents.Three adjectives, accurate, professional, certified, and the reminder to send the original too. Our certificate is the professional translator's signed statement of accuracy, and the translation keeps the original's layout for reading side by side.
Translations prepared elsewhere and submitted for use in the evaluation process may be accepted under certain conditions. Such translations must be properly certified and done by translators who are ATA certified. Translations from outside the United States must be done by accredited or officially certified professional translators. We reserve the right to reject translations that do not meet our standards.JS&A's bar for outside work is the ATA. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member (member 199762, printed on the certificate) and JS&A's FAQ adds that most translations done by professional translators are acceptable. Its right to reject is a right to reject inaccuracy, which is why we translate word for word.
In our experience, most translations done by professional translators are acceptable, but we reserve the right to review and reject them if they do not meet our standards of accuracy. We do not accept translations done by applicants or by unqualified translators.Do not translate your own diploma for JS&A. A professional translation is the norm, and accuracy is the only test it has to pass.

What a JS&A evaluation requires of your documents
- Official diplomas, certificates and transcripts in the original language are required; photocopies of academic credentials are not acceptable for an official evaluation.
- Documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by accurate, professional, certified English translations, which supplement but do not replace the originals.
- Outside translations may be accepted if properly certified and done by ATA certified translators, or, outside the United States, by accredited or officially certified professional translators; JS&A reserves the right to reject translations that do not meet its standards.
- JS&A does not accept translations done by applicants or by unqualified translators.
- For state boards of nursing, official academic credentials must be sent to JS&A directly by the issuing institution, and a certified English translation is required if they are not in English; a syllabus of study is required for all boards of nursing and engineering and for the Florida Board of Accountancy.
- JS&A is a NACES member since 1989, an ATA Corporate Member, and is on the approved evaluator lists of the Florida and Texas boards of nursing.
Common reasons translations get rejected
- Translating your own credentials. JS&A states it does not accept translations done by applicants.
- Sending a translation as if it replaced the original. JS&A needs the official original language documents, and for nursing boards they must come directly from the institution.
- Using an uncertified English version. JS&A says a school issued English version can be used only if it carries the institution's original signatures and stamps, and JS&A may still reject it.
- Underestimating the time. JS&A's non rush evaluation takes about 10 business days and its own translation another 5, so bringing a finished translation shortens the whole process.

Questions
Common questions
- Does JS&A accept translations from Eagle Translate?
- JS&A accepts outside translations that are properly certified and done by ATA certified translators, and its FAQ says most translations by professional translators are acceptable. ATA certification is an individual exam credential; Eagle Translate holds ATA corporate membership and every translation is certified and signed by a named professional translator. JS&A reserves the right to reject inaccurate work, which is the standard we hold ourselves to. We do not give legal advice.
- Do I need a notarized translation for JS&A?
- JS&A's condition for outside translations is proper certification by ATA certified translators. Notarization is something JS&A adds to its own translations at no charge; it is not stated as a condition for accepting others. We do not currently offer notarization; if another receiver insists on it, email us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
- I am a nurse using JS&A for the Florida or Texas board. What do I translate?
- The nursing diploma, the transcript with hours and grades, the course descriptions or syllabus, and your license, if they are not in English. JS&A requires the official credentials to arrive directly from your institution; the translation is what you supply alongside them.
- Can I use the English version my university printed?
- JS&A says it is highly likely to be acceptable if it carries the institution's original signatures and stamps, and reserves the right to reject it if it does not meet JS&A's language standards. When in doubt, a certified translation of the original language record removes the doubt.
- How much does the translation cost and how long does it take?
- $24.95 per page of up to 250 source words, in 2 to 3 business days, no certification fee. STUDENT25 takes 25% off; FREERUSH gives Premium 1 to 2 business day delivery at the Certified price. One code per order.
- Can JS&A verify the certificate?
- Yes. Each certificate carries its own number and a QR code that lead to eagletranslate.com/verify, where the number is confirmed against our records.
