Certified translation for a CAREE (IESCAREE) evaluation

The Center for Applied Research, Evaluation and Education (CAREE, also written IESCAREE), a NACES charter member that began at California State University, Long Beach in 1975, requires a certified English translation of every non English academic document and is specific about who may certify it. Translated in the United States, the translation must be done by an ATA translator, a US court certified translator or a US federally certified translator; CAREE accepts all translations by ATA Certified Members and most by ATA Members, and reserves the right to ask for a new translation from a different source. Self translations and notarized only translations are not accepted, even from an applicant who is a qualified translator. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member, and every translation is certified by the named professional translator, word for word and complete. Certified translation is $24.95 per page of up to 250 words, in 2 to 3 business days, and STUDENT25 takes 25% off.

What CAREE says, in its own words

Certified English translation for non-English academic documents is required for the evaluation process.

Certified, for every non English document. Ours opens with the translator's signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy.

If translated in the United States, English translation MUST be certified and done by an ATA (American Translators Association) Translator, US Court Certified Translator, or US Federal Certified Translator.

CAREE draws the line at the ATA and the courts. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member, and the same page says CAREE accepts most ATA Member translations while reserving the right to ask for another if it finds a problem, which is a right to reject inaccuracy.

Notarized-only translations and self-translations are not accepted.

A notary stamp on an uncertified translation earns nothing here, and CAREE's FAQ adds that an applicant may not translate even with a translator's qualifications.

Requirements

What a CAREE evaluation requires of your documents

  • A certified English translation is required for every non English academic document in the evaluation process.
  • Translated in the United States, the translation must be certified and done by an ATA translator, a US court certified translator or a US federally certified translator; CAREE accepts all ATA Certified Member translations and most ATA Member translations.
  • Translated outside the United States, CAREE accepts most certified translations by an internationally recognized agency or institution in the country of study, such as an embassy, a university or Department of Justice translators.
  • Notarized only translations and self translations are not accepted, and CAREE reserves the right to require a new translation from a different source when it finds a discrepancy.
  • CAREE does not provide translation services; it recommends finding an ATA member through the association's website.

Common reasons translations get rejected

  • Translating your own documents because you are a translator. CAREE's FAQ says no, even if you hold the qualifications it would normally accept.
  • A notary stamp instead of a translator's certification. Notarized only translations are not accepted.
  • A discrepancy between translation and original. CAREE makes the applicant have it verified and corrected, or replaced from another source, so accuracy is the cheapest option.

Questions

Common questions

Does CAREE accept translations from Eagle Translate?
CAREE accepts certified translations done by ATA translators and says it accepts most ATA Member translations. Eagle Translate is an ATA Corporate Member and each translation is certified by a named professional translator. CAREE reserves the right to ask for a new translation if it finds a discrepancy, which is why ours are word for word. We do not give legal advice.
Does CAREE need a notarized translation?
No. CAREE rejects notarized only translations and asks for certification by a qualified translator instead. Our certificate is signed by the translator.
My documents were translated in my home country. Will CAREE accept them?
CAREE accepts most certified translations by an internationally recognized agency or institution in the country of study, and reserves the right to require a new one. If yours is rejected, a certified translation from us is the replacement CAREE asks for.
How much does the translation cost and how long does it take?
$24.95 per page of up to 250 source words, in 2 to 3 business days, no certification fee. STUDENT25 takes 25% off; FREERUSH gives Premium 1 to 2 business day delivery at the Certified price. One code per order.
Can CAREE verify the certificate?
Yes. Each certificate carries its own number and a QR code that lead to eagletranslate.com/verify, where the number is confirmed against our records.
