What a certified translation must include
- A complete, word for word English translation of the entire document, including seals, stamps, signatures, and marginal notes.
- A signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy stating that the translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent to translate.
- The certificate carries the printed name and signature of the qualified professional translator, the language pair, the date, and the order reference.
- A QR code on the certificate opens a public verification record for the order.

How Italian-language documents work
In Italy, civil status records (birth, marriage, death) are kept by the Ufficio di Stato Civile of each comune (municipality), and certificates are signed by the ufficiale dello stato civile. There is no single national vital records office; the record lives in the comune where the event was registered.
Italian civil status documents come in tiers: the certificato (a short certificate of the fact), the estratto per riassunto dell'atto (a summary extract that adds details such as parents' names and marginal annotations), and the copia integrale (a full photostatic copy of the register act). The tier matters because US filings often need the annotations that only the estratto or copia integrale carry.
The US State Department reciprocity schedule for Italy lists the birth document as Certificato di nascita or Estratto dell'Atto di Nascita, and notes the estratto includes parents' names, time of birth, and civil status annotations such as marriages and divorces, while the plain certificato gives only date and place of birth.
Separate from the stato civile, each Italian comune runs an Ufficio Anagrafe (population registry) that issues residency and family documents such as the certificato di residenza and the certificato di stato di famiglia, which US filers sometimes need for immigration and dual citizenship cases.
