Apostilles and notarization in Nevada
The Nevada Secretary of State issues apostilles and certifications for Nevada documents. Requests are processed through the Carson City office at 401 North Carson Street.
The state fee is 20 dollars per apostille or certification, with optional expedite fees charged in addition to the base fee.
A private document must be notarized by a Nevada notary public before it can receive a Nevada apostille, and public records must be original or certified copies issued by a Nevada agency. The original document is submitted with a completed Apostille/Certification Order Form that names the destination country.
Nevada issues an apostille for countries in the Hague Apostille Convention and a certification for non-Hague destinations, which is why the order form asks for the country where the document will be used.
For USCIS filings from Nevada, the agency requires a certified translation with the translator's signed certification of accuracy and competence. USCIS does not require the translation to be notarized.
When a Nevada receiving office asks for a notarized translation, the notary notarizes the translator's signature on the certification statement. The notary verifies identity, not the accuracy of the translation.
A translation headed for a Nevada apostille must first be notarized by a Nevada notary, because the Secretary of State authenticates the notary's signature, not the translation itself.

- What happens to stamps, seals, and signatures?
- They are not dropped. Stamps, seals, signatures, and reference codes are described in bracketed form at the position they hold in the original, and the page structure is preserved, so a reviewer can set the translation beside the source document and follow it line by line.
- How is terminology from another country's legal system handled?
- A term with no exact United States equivalent is rendered to carry the meaning it has in the system that issued it, rather than swapped for an American term that would change what the document says. Where a term needs explaining, the explanation sits in brackets beside it instead of replacing it.
- A document has been asked for at short notice. How quickly can it be done?
- Certified delivery is 2 to 3 business days. Through 31 December 2026 the upgrade to Premium 1 to 2 business days delivery is applied automatically at the Certified price, so the faster option costs the same as the standard one.
- What does the certificate attest to?
- It attests to the accuracy of the translation. It states in those words that it does not attest to the authenticity of the source document or to the truth of its contents. That boundary is what makes it a certification a reviewer can rely on rather than a claim about your evidence.
