The New Jersey Department of the Treasury, Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services, issues apostilles and certifications for New Jersey documents, with requests submitted through the state's online ordering portal.
The statutory fee is 25 dollars per document, and the online service adds a convenience fee where applicable.
Notarized documents must carry the original inked signature of the New Jersey notary public and the original inked signature of the person who signed the document before the notary.
For documents not in English, the state recommends attaching a notarized English translation, and attaching a notarized translation to a vital record results in two fees. The apostille is stapled to the document and must not be removed. Apostilles go to Hague Convention countries and certifications to all others.
For USCIS filings from New Jersey, the agency requires a certified translation with the translator's signed certification of accuracy. USCIS does not require the translation to be notarized.
New Jersey's apostille office recommends a notarized English translation for documents not in English, so translations that will travel abroad with a New Jersey apostille are commonly notarized on top of the translator's certification.
When a New Jersey receiving office asks for a notarized translation, the notary notarizes the translator's signature on the certification statement and verifies identity, not translation accuracy.

- A term with no exact United States equivalent is rendered to carry the meaning it has in the system that issued it, rather than swapped for an American term that would change what the document says. Where a term needs explaining, the explanation sits in brackets beside it instead of replacing it.
- A document has been asked for at short notice. How quickly can it be done?
- Certified delivery is 2 to 3 business days. Through 31 December 2026 the upgrade to Premium 1 to 2 business days delivery is applied automatically at the Certified price, so the faster option costs the same as the standard one.
- What does the certificate attest to?
- It attests to the accuracy of the translation. It states in those words that it does not attest to the authenticity of the source document or to the truth of its contents. That boundary is what makes it a certification a reviewer can rely on rather than a claim about your evidence.
